NO BACKPACKS HERE!
Nope, we’re part of a far more “practical” generation.
WELCOME TO OUR ADVENTURE
We are Devon & LC from the San Francisco Bay Area beginning a new exciting chapter in our lives. We’re becoming expats!
Not everyone who relocates abroad quits their job at 30, sells all their furniture and sets out to live in a new country with barely enough clothing to last for a week. That thought never entered our minds back when we were younger. Our generation emphasized loyalty and duty above all else. So I went to work in a teeny little cubicle, took very few sick days, got very little recognition (or raises) for more years than I care to mention. Finally I retired with social security and a pension, which when added together did not amount to enough for me to live a comfortable life in the city that I resided in since the early 70s.
What’s wrong with this picture?
Roughly 3.3 million American Baby Boomers claim that they intend to retire abroad. They represent the largest single group of Americans with the highest birth rates seen in the past 75 years.
As prices continue to rise in the US and health care costs remain a huge concern for many retirees looking to retire on the cheap, there has been an increasing number of expats relocating to countries in Central America.
Avid traveler and global citizen, I recently retired with over 40 years in the financial services industry. I am a glass artist, color consultant, fashion and lifestyle blogger, and founder of “It Takes a Village” a non-profit organization dedicated to building schools and wells in the remote villages of West Africa.
I want to see more of the World. I’ve always known I was a fish living in a fish bowl. But now it is time to sprout wings and fly, High and Far … Like Jonathan the famous gull said, “The gull sees farthest
who flies highest”
In “borrowed” words again …. I live to make a difference where I can. My interests are varied from traveling, to a desire for experiential spiritual practice, playing the flute and natural medicine. My greatest treasure is knowledge and I am always a seeker.
This I know to be true – My heart speaks. My mind interprets. My fingers type. And my grammar sucks.
